The Refugee: Caught in the Webs of the Past

Image
Your life is a state of denial, passed through with fearless confidence while looking at a dial- tick tock the clock goes, but you still have to look forward. For  if you get caught in the webs of the pas t, get stuck in stick in the sands of time. It would be hard to claw up to the future. Like raindrops on your window, So numerous you know, So are your dreams Of success streams. But you prefer to hide your true hue So you can stick to the world, Or get out of it. But stay Even if it's just for to-day Or tomorrow's-day For the night is till young and the morning is gay. And when I think under clear skies, The writing is as crystal as the blue; It says to keep moving, Ride on, Because you're the only shine On a dark Knight And the only star In a star-less night Artist.  Fatola Israel Title: "The Refugee" Medium: Compressed Charcoal, Generals Charcoal and Kimberly Pencils  on paper Dimension: 3 by

The Puzzle Series 001 - Pieces and Piles of People, Places and Priceless Moments

Image
Here's your puzzle, here's mine. Pieces and piles of people, places and priceless moments to fit perfectly into the miles of our history. They are carefully selected (and some not so carefully selected) pieces from the whole lot and just when you feel like you are missing a fragment remember; sometimes the choice piece does not fit, then we hold on to it till we find someone ( a friend or a passer-by) to trade with. A new style, a perfect picture or a patch from another picture; in the end all of these will merge into footholds paving up our yellow road to success. ''Sometimes, you have to forget what's gone,  appreciate  what's still remaining and look forward  to what's coming next'' - Will Smith Cheers to the pieces of puzzles that have pooled our lives together! DESIGN INSPIRATION: Some four/five years ago, I was speaking to a close friend about what it takes to be Iconic. I mean, as young and talented as we were back then, we

REVERIE - Lost in Thoughts; A Daydream.

Image
FATOLA ISRAEL REVERIE FULL ARTWORK You know, most times, we let the inhibitions created by the society hamper our dreams and aspirations. However, the fact that there are no skyscrapers reaching the sun, does not mean that you cannot dine with the stars; and the fact that the world seems to large and wide, does not mean you cannot hold it in your hands. Fatola Israel _ Reverie _ Charcoal on Paper Progress Think about it, dream it, feel the earth crust in your palms, let the seas and oceans flow through your fingers. Gird up your loins and brace yourself to face the star lights. Let your imaginations soar far endlessly like the birds in the free skies, free the cages of your heart and let it hang open. Across sunny skies and bumpy clouds, I'll let the closed cage of my heart open And let my thoughts free like the bird soaring the skies. I'll dream of skyscrapers reaching high to touch the sun And Starlight to reach out and craw the st

Through Experience: Characterizing our Moments in History Part 2 of 2

Fatola Israel_Through Experience 2019 When we get to the point where our paths point in different directions and we have to choose what yellow road to pick; above us,the same sky will hover. Sometimes, it may crack a tear, or pour down torrents; other times, it may smile rays of light or scorch out the life it gives. But it is the same sky, same us. The lines of your palms, show them to me; the wrinkles mapped across your face, the same as mine. Your shoes may not fit, but we will tread the same earth. Fatola Israel_Through Experience 2019 Details Your footsteps will match mine as the brown hue spread over our skin. Same skin same sky. Different walks, different paths. Cracked feet will tell of our journey, or would it be the click clack of heels? Chapped lips will break to tell chaps of the tale, or would it be smacking glossy lips? We live and die but only connected dots of memory in history will form our lived experience, and we have

Through Experience - Characterizng our moments in History (Article) Part 1 of 2

You and I Iive knowing that we - and our loved ones - will eventually die. This shadow of death forces us to contemplate what to do with our fleeting time on Earth. Many choose religion to be saved through Faith.  Some even go as far as using Logic and Reasoning: by trying to understand ourselves and the world we inhabit. At the drop of a hat, how do we now possibly explain the root cause of Xenophobia? how do we react to the Xenophobic violence against foreigners (particularly other African Nationals) in South Africa? How should we behave and co-exist with one another? How can we  describe the state of coexistence amongst Africans, or Let me expand it a bit further: between Humans and Nature? Humans might have burned some parts of the Amazon for thousands of years, but the fire records analyzed indicate the scale of forest disturbance in the 21st century is probably unprecedented. Towards this end,  how do we digest our understanding of the world we

You think they are soulless  But spurs and sprinkles of spiritness Spring out of a ruffle of feathers here,  A bleating sigh there,  A cluck cluck cluck around the clock all day,  And the sweet swaying dance of the grass with the breeze.    The turkey, she fluffs her feather "is it I this day? " You think she's proud,  aye?  The ram, he bleats He looks upon his kid The suckling calf, born on the fifth day Or were'nt they all born on the fifth day ?  At least The preacher said so; the whistling preacher  You come all collared up with your knife, The ram bleats a sigh of relief as the shearer struts past his family. Everyone he passed knew his destination was The ever clucking clever chicken cleaving on to her last clove of eggs...
